Coronavirus Updates

Aloha Church Family,

Below are some of our specific responses to the virus outbreak in order to love well in this season. Take a few moments to read and enjoy our Midweek Moment video to check in on each other. Now is a great time to use your phone to call around or text each other. We need each other now more than ever!

- For the next 2 weeks, all face to face Connection Groups and worship are cancelled. For Connection Groups, it will be up to the individual leader if they want to meet via video chat, send out devotional materials instead, or simply cancel. For Sunday worship, we will be gathering a small team to put together a service Sundays at 10:30 AM over on Facebook Live and we will work to upload the service here on the website afterwards. Please join us online with your household. 

- For Food Pantry and God’s Closet the last 2 Sundays of the month at 12:00 PM, we will be doing deliveries to our regular clients from within the congregation on Saturday/Sunday, and for sure handing out bags drive through style this Sunday, March 22 at 12:00 PM in the church parking lot. Please do not exit your vehicle. We will evaluate our supplies if we can give out food again the following week: Sunday, March 29.

- We will be posting via Facebook and the church website several opportunities for daily discipleship. Daily, we’ll post the Scripture readings for the day. We’ll also provide a short liturgy you can use with your household at mealtime as a reminder of communion in lieu of our ability to partake together right now. Visit our website for these options! We’ll also post a midweek discussion on the Facebook page and church blog. Go take a look!

- We will still have expenses as a church during this awkward time and most importantly want to be able to care for our people and community. Please consider continuing to give or giving sacrificially during this time:


  • You can mail a check to church: Connection Point Church of the Nazarene - HC3 Box 13519, Kea’au, HI 96749
  • One of the pastors can come and collect your tithes as needed. Call Pastor Malorri to schedule (808) 491-5374 or leave a message in the church office (808) 982-5177.

- We will re-evaluate our plans on a week to week basis as a pastoral team, but we are especially buckling down in this 15-day period as encouraged on a state and national level to care for those who may be most vulnerable among our community. Please stay home as much as possible. Reach out if you have childcare needs. 

- If you have needs throughout the week - especially getting supplies or medical attention, please contact the pastors or utilize the Church Directory to tap into the congregation. We have extra copies of the directory still available if you would like one!
Mahalo for your care for our community as we use this time to connect with the Lord, our families, and our neighbors with wisdom and love. God is with us and we are not alone!

The last 2 Sundays of each month at 12:30 PM, a line forms outside the sliding glass doors that serve as our entrance to the Food Pantry and God's Closet. Each week as these ministries begin, the leaders and the line of people gather to pray. This simple moment spent unifying the group is more than just to keep everyone "nice," but rather to remind that whether someone finds themselves in line or serving or both, we are all in need of Christ. "Us" and "them" must be dropped at the door. The food pantry is mostly non-perishable food, supplemented with produce as giving allows. Bearing Witness

Confession...right off the bat: My knowledge of Hawai'i prior to living on the Big Island was limited to what I concluded from primarily 3 sources: 1) Disney's  Lilo and Stitch 2) Party City's "luau" themed party decor section 3) Snippets from my parents' honeymoon trip Can I tell you those 3 sources are nowhere near sufficient for understanding these islands? The reality of living in the Hawaiian Islands, particularly on the Big Island (the island that is actually called Hawai'i...and no, the Big Island is not Oahu where the capital is...it's the BIG one), and even more particularly in the Puna District of the Big Island is not what people assume Hawai'i-life to be. We are the most eastern island of the chain. All the other islands could fit onto Hawaii/the Big Island just for reference.  Our church is located in the northern side of the Puna District. Rain

It's been a hot summer here, that's at least what I've concluded from my vast 3-summer life experience here in Hawai'i. The jury's still out from those who've lived here their whole lives regarding this statement.  And then last night...it started raining. Each time, you hear it coming as it begins hitting metal roofs of houses all around us, the sound crescendoing until the sprinkling meets our own roof. Props to the previous pastors for fixing this parsonage roof that apparently used to leak a LOT. Props to several of our current congregants for getting our sanctuary to FINALLY stop leaking. I can enjoy the rain now without anxiety of interior-lakes forming.  A shot from the parsonage on a particularly rainy day... As the rain washed over Puna throughout the night and through most of today, I have been grateful for both the cooling and quieting affect rain seems to have here.
